Panchakarma

Ayurveda's classical multi-stage detoxification and rejuvenation program, offered only as an individualized, physician-supervised adjunct.

What it is & how it works

Panchakarma ("five actions") is Ayurveda's classical multi-stage detoxification and rejuvenation program, structured in three phases: Purvakarma (preparatory oleation and sudation to loosen accumulated imbalance, or ama), Pradhankarma (the five main eliminative procedures — Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana — selected according to the individual's constitution, or Prakriti, and current doshic imbalance), and Paschatkarma (structured post-treatment diet and lifestyle rehabilitation). Within classical Ayurveda the rationale is to clear accumulated imbalance and restore doshic equilibrium as a foundation for further healing, rather than to target a single symptom in isolation.

How it's done

Typically administered as a residential or day-care program spanning roughly one to three weeks depending on constitution and presenting concern, under the supervision of a qualified Ayurvedic physician. A typical day combines oil-based Purvakarma therapies with one or more of the five main procedures selected for that individual, followed by a controlled post-procedure diet — a monitored program with daily clinical review, not a single session.

Why Unfold Longevity

Panchakarma is offered at Unfold Longevity only as an individualized, physician-supervised adjunct woven into a patient's broader longevity or recovery plan, consistent with our commitment to realistic, honestly stated scope of care — it is never positioned as a substitute for medically necessary treatment, and we make no claim that it cures or reverses any underlying condition.

Evidence & safety

Evidence for Panchakarma is largely traditional and empirical, drawn from classical Ayurvedic texts and clinical experience, with a growing but heterogeneous body of modern observational research — this differs in kind from RCT-based biomedical evidence and is represented as such. Delivered only by a registered Ayurvedic physician, with careful patient selection.

The oil-based preparatory therapies are not typically described as painful, though some of the main eliminative procedures involve deliberate purgation or cleansing that can cause temporary discomfort. It is offered here only as an individualized adjunct coordinated with your existing medical team, never as a substitute for medically necessary treatment.
